MCSA Windows Server 2016


This is the first step on your path to becoming a Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE). Earning an MCSA Windows Server 2016 certification also qualifies you for a position as a network or computer systems administrator or as a computer network specialist.


Course Content

 1.      Installation, Storage and Compute with Windows Server 2016 – Exam 70-740

This course is intended for IT professionals who have some experiencing working with Windows Server, as it covers storage and compute technologies in Windows Server 2016. This course focuses primarily on the installation, storage, and compute features and functionality available in Windows Server 2016.

The course covers general installation tasks and considerations and the installation and configuration of Nano Server, in addition to the creation and management of images for deployment. It also covers local and server storage solutions, including the configuration of disks and volumes, Data Deduplication, High Availability, Disaster Recovery, Storage Spaces Direct, and Failover Clustering solutions. The exam also covers Hyper-V and containers, along with the maintenance and monitoring of servers in physical and compute environments.


2.      Networking with Windows Server 2016 – Exam 70-741

This course is intended for existing IT professionals who have some networking knowledge and experience and are looking for a single course that provides insight into core and advanced networking technologies in Windows Server 2016.

The course provides the fundamental networking skills required to deploy and support Windows Server 2016 in most organizations. It covers IP fundamentals, remote access technologies, and more advanced content including Software Defined Networking. It focuses on the networking features and functionality available in Windows Server 2016. It covers DNS, DHCP, and IPAM implementations, in addition to remote access solutions, such as VPN and Direct Access. It also covers DFS and BranchCache solutions, high performance network features and functionality, and implementation of software-defined networking (SDN) solutions, such as Hyper-V Network Virtualization (HNV) and Network Controller.


3.      Identity with Windows Server 2016 – Exam 70-742

This course is primarily intended for existing IT professionals who have some AD DS knowledge and experience and who aim to develop knowledge about identity and access technologies in Windows Server 2016.  It teaches IT Pros how to deploy and configure Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) in a distributed environment, how to implement Group Policy, how to perform backup and restore, and how to monitor and troubleshoot Active Directory–related issues with Windows Server 2016. Additionally, this course teaches how to deploy other Active Directory server roles such as Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) and Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS).

This course focuses on the identity functionality in Windows Server 2016. It covers the installation and configuration of Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), in addition to Group Policy implementation for non-Nano Server environments. It also covers functionality such as Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS), Active Directory Federations Services (AD FS), and Web Application proxy implementations.


In addition: Individuals who currently hold either an MCSA: Windows Server 2012 or MCSA: Windows Server 2008 certification will be able to upgrade to the new 2016 certification through a single, upgrade exam:

  • Upgrade Your Skills to MCSA: Windows Server 2016 – Exam 70-743



  1. Some exposure and experience in Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2012.
  2. A basic understanding of networking fundamentals and technologies.
  3. Hands-on working experience with windows client operating systems such as Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10.
  4. An awareness and understanding of basic security best practices.


 At the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Install and configure domain controllers.
  • Deploy and manage certificates.
  • Configure advanced networking features.
  • Implement Software Defined Networking.
  • Prepare and install Nano Server, a Server Core installation, and plan a server upgrade and migration strategy.
  • Describe the various storage options, including partition table formats, basic and dynamic disks, file systems, virtual hard disks, and drive hardware, and explain how to manage disks and volumes.
  • Deploy, configure, and manage Windows and Hyper-V containers.
  • Plan, create, and manage a failover cluster.
